perhaps a side view to see how sharp it might be would help.

Does look like one but I am doubtful.Metal heads were made from barrel hoop bands and were "thin".Your piece has that "knapped",appearance which of course wouldnt be the case

100% with Kruger, plus it is way too heavy for an arrowhead and much too small for a lance or spear point. Some indians worked with coppper, but I don't think the Iron Age had arrived.

looks like spilled lead to me

These pictures really don't do it justice ,holding it in your hand it looks so much like an arrow head
Maybe someone just tried to copy one in lead :dontknow:

Ok, then, just a blob fortunate enought to look like an arrowhead. Lead does not chip, and does not hold an edge, and probably had no penetracting power. If an indian was using that for any tool, he would be very hungry. Couldn't even skin a deer with it. Pseudomorph. Maybe not the exact right word, but functional.

Yep Big Cy,I have not be so fortunate as to have dug one yet but I have been present when several were excavated, and back in my "crafty",days I used to make them and put them on traditional style Plains Indian shafts,to sell....sold a bunch, and even several to museums....they were as as close to authentic as a modern repro could be

Just to add a bit of current interest to this thread, I just ran into a rock dealer last week that I know. He had some "barrel band" iron arrowheads that someone had made and he says he sells a bunch of them! His had a "stem" on the bottom, and the notches were very thin cuts, not notched at all. The stem became the attachment point, so I don't know why there were even any cuts for notches at all. Kruger: were the ones you used like that, or did you have actual notches for tying into?

I did put notches in them because some of(most of)the examples I seen had them. They kind of added to there "allure",and if the shaft was slightly smaller in diameter they did assist in lashing.I did sell a bunch of them, too.I know I have some around here someplace,I just need to find them?My Dad is up at our place in Montana now and will be coming down around Thanksgiving, and is going to bring a couple of my arrows down.I will post some pics if wanted
