Holy $#!* that is a nearly mint 1861-S! Definitely over a grade 50 too, but not sure how to grade it accurately just from the pics and being a "dug" coin and all, but that may very well be a $500-$1,000 coin right there. Congrats! Just think the person who last held that probably got it the same year it entered circulation, that means the last guy who touched that coin was likely involved in the Civil War in some way or another! So cool!

Absolutely beautiful coin! Congrats! IMO, I wouldn't hit it with any baking soda or attempt to clean it. As is, I would put it at AU-55, Details-Environmental Damage; ~$400.

WHAT A BEAUTY . FINE LOOKING COIN YOU HAVE THERE FORTY NINE NEEER.

awesome looking coin- no need to clean- so exciting pulling out big silvers

Very nice looking coin... great details. Congrats.

Very Nice! Just added that one to my bucket list.........

Snowing in my part of CA so I probably won't get much more digging this year.

Congratz on an incredible coin!

Maybe worth sending to NGC and calling about having their people do the cleaning and grading. May be worth while...

That's one sweet seated half in fantastic shape. Kudos to you on the retrieval. :occasion14:

Beautiful Seated Half! I agree with not cleaning it, she's too pretty as is. Congrats!

Sweet seated half

Oh so beautiful. Great toning too. Not many of those halves are found per year on here. Found an 1871 half myself back in June. Big find and congrats

Never thought about it that way before :-D

I want a date with that lady. Beautiful find, congratulations.

That's a once in a lifetime find, given the condition. Congratulations!

Yes, out of all of my silver coins I have found since I began detecting in the early 80's, this one is the best condition and it is extra special that it is a Seated Half! Definitely one of my best coin finds ever for condition. :-D
