message in a bottle

Unclemac, that is simply an amazing story. What a blast from the past. Thanks for sharing the link. Just curious, would you open it?

you bet yer sweet aunties apple pie I would.....

1. most likely damp inside
2. kinda depends on if i could read all of it...if I could and it was dry, i would leave it....
3. the cork is gonna dry out anyway and fall into the bottle...

I have only found two of these in my life....but everytime I hit the beach it is a new adventure....like last time and that opium I found....

Neat story. No real point in opening it, particularly since the note can be read from the outside. I think opening it would just ruin it.

Very cool story....I agree...if you can read it, I would not open but with today's technology, seal the cork with epoxy, somehow attach an engraved plate with a small note on the bottle itself and then find a way to return it to the sea to see how long the next time it was found....a floating time capsule so to speak....

When my twins were in the 3rd. grade,I put some of their homework in a PVC pipe, sealed at both ends & burried it in the backyard.I plan on digging it up when their out of college.

I think there is more to the note. What you can read is what is written on the outside of what appears to be an envelope. I'm with mac, i would open it

Yea, if there is more in the note than just the outside...then open, read it, then put you own note with the original then seal and toss back....

I'm sure it has more value unopened, especially being the "Oldest known example of an unopened message in a bottle"!

Still, what if it has directions to a secret buried treasure?

My guess would be a letter to a lost love and this was his therapy.
