I found this while I was walking along the water at the seaside ca beach I could not believe it. I don't know much about it yet and it does a a message in it....maybe someone might know what I should do with it. I would love to see what the message says. A little bit of water has gotten inside. There is a number 2 on the bottom of the bottle. Does anyone know what that means. image.jpeg

Sweet, that is amazing! Not sure what the ethical protocol is on opening messages in a bottle... but aren't they usually sent to sea for someone else to find? That someone ended up being you. Follow your heart? -Lisa

Somebody put it in there so that it would be found and read. Open it and see what it says.

It was meant to be opened by the finder. Open that sucker up and please post pics!

Sweet bottle, by the way. Has that quintessential look.

That looks like a pretty old bottle. I would be real careful on pulling that cork.
Maybe you should contact the local historical society.
If it is really old and from another part of the country, (or world), they might be able to spearhead a search for information??
Good luck
PS: Be nice to the Genie

open it . until you do. the age of the note is unknown.
it could have been put there by a kindergarten student
during a class project yesterday. or thrown off a ship on the other side of the world
a hundred years ago.

the fact it is numbered suggests to me it was a science project with several bottles
possibly disposed of at different locations.
or each student was given a number in order to be sure after they were sealed each would get their own bottle to throw.

however the fact it is not filled with water makes me think
even if the bottle is old, it's time in the water has not been as long as the bottle
has existed.

careful contacting anyone before you open it. They may steal it from you,
seal it away, and never open it.

Looks to me like it has floated and bobbed around in the sand for a long time. Open that dude up!!!d2

Great find! :occasion14:

Try the local Historical Society or Preservation Society. If they are not interested, an online search may yield the best technique when dealing with salt water soaked old paper.

Good Luck in your adventure.

?!?! OPEN THAT BOTTLE!!! That is really cool and we are all dying to know if there is a note in there, and if so, what it says!

what I would do if you haven't opened it is have a Hair Dryer handy
Dump the bottle out & don't touch the paper till you completely hand Dry it.

If the ink hasn't leached or dissolved already, it will be very acceptable to smearing at first

Ya see that? I mean.....like veritable drooling hounds! OPEN IT OPEN IT OPEN IT!!!! YEAH YEAH YEAH!!!!

Come on guys....don't badger. :angel2:

What if it's got a genie inside and if one doesn't at least rub the lamp....er bottle a few times before opening, they'll lose out! ;)

I'm with Jeff of Pa. That would have to be some awesome cork to last in the sea water for any real length of time! :)

The note probably says "EAT AT JOE'S" , or something thereabouts.

it was meant to be opened my the finder and then contact the sender.open it.cool find

That is so cool. Let us know what it says. I hope it's Ginger's phone number and address.

This really is a funny thread. I say that because of what I did today and a few observations. I found a corked bottle when I was looking for the ring last week in 17' of water. Unfortunately the bottle was cracked and even though intact I was bummed because I liked the bottle. So today was garbage day and I threw the bottle out without a picture.

In looking at this bottle it appears that it spent most of its time on the bottom. The sand blasting and how heavy it looks compared to the size. People will say well corks float. Not necessarily. The corked bottle I found had a huge cork. Picture of it below with a quarter for comparison. It was 17' down on top of the muck. I would think this bottle didn't float very much from anywhere. And with water in it like he says, I also don't think it was in the water that long or the message would be paper pulp.

I am interested in what it says. However, no matter how old the bottle is, that doesn't mean it wasn't a new drop in the water. My 2¢ free of charge.

That's an excellent find! That's a cork top and the bottle appears to have been in the water for some time. Wear from rocks and sand

The bottle doesn't look discolored from being in the water for any length of time. That really makes me think it is a Genie Bottle. They moved out of old brass lamps a long time ago. They kinda like being able to see the outside world. Even if it is a little cloudy.
What ever you do, if you decide to open it, do not use a hairdryer. Most Genies are bald. If you point a hairdryer in his direction, he will probably think you are making fun of him. That could get ugly.
I would come help you but my Magic Carpet isn't charging.
Nice find, but try not to breathe in the fumes should you decide to open it.
