I have been metal detecting for going on 3 years now and am Loving it! My nephew at 6 now has followed me around at my Mom and Dad's old farmhouse helping locate and dig treasures. Before I come to visit, he always calls to make sure I am bringing my treasure finder :laughing7:. I found a Marksman for a little of nothing at Menard's for him for Christmas this year. Got some pictures to share with the smile on his face. We went out a week after Christmas and ended up putting the Marksman to the side until warm weather comes around to figure it out. So...we ventured off as usual with me locating and him digging and we come across a 5 cent piece that I believe is an 1867. All I have done is rinse it in water...any suggestions??

Nice shield Nickle
That will get him hooked.

Lucky kid! He has a nice uncle. Best thing with the nickel is to take an SOS pad to it. It won't hurt what value it has but will take off the corrosion and and clear some of redness off. I know it sounds destructive but its not. :icon_thumright:
