Not to be over technical but would that be better described as agatized wood?

No I would say petrified wood is the right description. As I understand, the processes that form agate and those that form petrified wood are very different. Although both are general terms that included a wide variety of specific type material (hardstone), the most basic difference is petrified wood was once vegative or fibrous matter and agate wasn't. Agates are formed through volcanic action and lava flows by volatiles filling voids in molten mass. Petrifaction happens in water, muck, mud and dirt as the fibers the vegative material is mineralized and turned to stone.

Actually I've never heard the term "agatized wood" before but thanks gator, for making me do a little research.

Sure... I brought it up because we have alot of agatized coral in Florida and they look similar. No volcanos to make that.
