Mercy..it's a strange one

Right off, you want to say it was a petrified root or other wood. It was found in a plowed field in eastern Kansas. There was nothing else around it that was out of the ordinary. The plow had dug it up. It has tiny crystals inside and the sparkle in the sunlight. It has "bubble cavities" on the outside as though it was very hot. Thanks folks! Tumbleweed509

What oledavidboy means to say is that typing in all caps means you are yelling. If you must type in caps or lower case, lower case is preferred.

Regarding your rock: not sure. Almost looks like wood or bone being replaced by opal and/or quartz or calcite.

Need more info too: what state was it found in?

It also looks, at least a little to my eye, like travertine. Travertine typically has elongated crystals deposited over time by mineral-rich water flowing over it. Arizona is noted for it.

There's a lot of petrified wood in Eastern Kansas, and probably not too many hot springs now or archaic for travertine. Sorta looks like coral. I vote petrified wood. And PW can have crystals in it---I one had a piece with a cervice full of 1/32 in. smokies in it, but alas, sold it several years ago. This does look like it could have some opal in it, or perhaps all agate. I am always amazed when one finds a nice piece of wood and there is not a whole tree laying around there somewhere.

Get someone to cut it vertically for you and you may have a nice pair of bookends.
