Mercury dimes Unisex?
I'd like to say that in the past I have heard these are called "Ladies" and also referred to as "Mercury "( male Greek god).. so on that note I apologize if I have not addressed to this dime as a male figure . I stand corrected. It was modeled after the Statue of Liberty with a winged cap. so with that said .. hope you all find many "Ladies" in your future hunts!

yes, actually a depiction of Lady Liberty wearing a winged cap to signify freedom of thought.

The actual name for this coin is the "Winged Liberty Dime." The Winged Liberty Dime actually has nothing at all to do with the god Mercury--this is just a common misnomer as the bust "resembles" Mercury to some extent and I guess the term "Merc" is easier to say than Winged Liberty (or WLD--hey can I coin (no pun intended) this new acronym??). For some reason the term Merc or Mercury dime tends to rub me the wrong way (well I guess because it is actually wrong!) and I really wish people would use the proper name "winged liberty" (or my new acronym WLD :laughing7: which is not unlike our popular acronym SLQ).
