Went to meet a landowner for permission to hunt an 1814 home site in the same area I have been hunting for about a year. A little ghost town. He has previously let me hunt 3 others, and owns a great deal of the surrounding land. Found out my wires were crossed on its location. The home I was after was a relatively large brick home built by a prominent family. What I thought was the original site was actually a tenant or slave home and his current home is on the approximate site of the main home. They did not offer to let me hunt their yard but said I could hunt the other home. Think the main home will come as I made some brownie points. I dug a key fob from The Great Eastern Hotel in Calcutta India. Apparently in it's day, the most extravagant in the country. I went to show the owner and the Mrs. and they were fascinated, I immediately gave it to them and forgot to get a picture, but will when I go back. I did find that at the turn of the century there was a band stand and tennis courts adjacent to where I am hunting. Again ... the property of a very prominent family. Now a grown up mess. It was built next to a spring and the beaver constantly dam the steam that comes out so now almost a marsh. Tons of history on the surrounding property. In about an hour hunting I did pull a the sterling pin, a merc, hotel key fob, and this copper piece I assume is plumbing or the like. Oh yes and the usual junk including many Mason Jar lids. He said that some one had hunted the tenant site years ago but did not stay long. Apparently they didn't pound it as I made a few finds.

jewelerguy, appreciate it. wonder approximate age. Sure it is fairly modern, but no idea on age. The ground must have been turned as it was deep, yet just doesn't look like an old design.

Cool pin. Congrats on that silver. :occasion14:

I spent about 30 minutes yesterday searching the web for an ID on it and didn't have any luck. I am pretty certain it is WW2 or Korean war era, but I'm just not sure what it is. probably a patriotic pin or possibly a sweetheart pin. almost looks like something is broken off the bottom of it like a loop perhaps. maybe something hung from it?

Definitely looks like it had something on bottom ...... great catch. I also checked google images and ebay with no luck.

Nice finds and way to go working the system to get more gravy spots offered! We should all take lessons from you, lo!

That pin is a neat find , I cant decide between it being military (the two chevrons ) and civilian patriotic jewelry - I'm leaning toward the
latter .

After looking at the eagle pin again , I'm convinced jewelerguy is correct - patriotic pin - I also think it is missing a part at the bottom .

Nice finds, I like the pin. Your Merc has great detail!
