Melting silver- ?

Why mess with it? If you are only melting it, and not refining it, you just end up with a silver looking block of metal with no hallmarks left on it. Not only that, it's still just .925. So what do you gain?

You would be better off selling the good hallmarked stuff on ebay. Chances are pretty good you will get spot or even better right now.

Might make an interesting hobby but I don't know why someone would take the time and pay the cost of melting down metals that could be taken directly to the scrap yard. Even precious metals would be better taken in as-is so as not to lose their identity.
