i melted about 50 cans last night. i used a coffee can to melt it in. it doesn't look that appealing to the eye. i think its because the can rusted and made it look bad. where it came out a little it looks great, nice bright and shinny. so i think I'm gonna have to get a small stainless pot to melt it in.
the total weight is about 1.5 ponds

i did it because they wont accept cans at the scrap yards by me >:(. like all 7 or 8 of them >:( >:(. i think its because we have the recycling people here who come around and take it.

it took like 20 mins for like 50 cans. but it doesn't really matter how long it to me. because i was going to make a fire anyway and gives me something to do instead of just pile wood on.

They won't take AL cans near where you live? And where is that, my friend -- Area 51? Well, as long as you were going to make a fire anyway... :-\

stainless steel in not the best conductor of heat. Iron works better, with a stainless steel handle. But playing with fire is always good, so if it takes longer and yer havin' fun. Then who cares. I love fire and burning or melting something does make it better.

good luck hope the scrap yard takes it for ya. I'm surprised that they won't take the cans, it's easy money for them.

I completely understand. And to me, that hunk of melted metal is beautiful. Thanks for the pics, and good luck finding a good smelter.

fyi i live in michigan where we have a 10 cent deposit on cans the scrap yard i talked to told me they where not supposed to accept any returnable cans by law but the stores wont take the smashed ones after a couple of emails back and forth the manager told me he would accept my smashed cans but only if they were not returnable to the store the problem is if you can read the refund on the lid to solve that just whack it with a hammer no more refund stamp on top by the way i probly find 10-1 bad cans to good cans here in michigan so i figured pick up the bad as well make more money that way

By meltting your can's down you won't get can, price of $.60 in this area. They will pay you irony price of $.10 per pound because will say that you may have put nails in it .
Unless you are a reg. scrap metal Co. is the only way you can melt your Cans.
I own R.P.Lord Scrap metals & Hauling, of Naples FLA. for 18 years,so be careful when you melt your Cans,it may bite you in the end!!
