Looking at it closer it might be carved amber

The sot at the top looks like it could be for a key hole. Interesting item and beautifully done. Thanks for sharing.

Where did it come from? If it was somewhere in the old world I can imagine it being a lot older than it could here in the US.

I found it in a house clean out in the attic. I can’t clean it but if I did I bet it would look amazing

The problem with the key hole idea to me, is I see no indication that anything was connected on the backside, unless the mechanism is in the inside. Interesting what ever it is. Maybe the slotted hole is where it was once hung from.

I have seen skeleton key items with same concept just wood at beginning.....I to thought it was to hang it. Wonder if this came from the amber room that’s contents went missing during ww2
