Saxons originaly migrated from Germany to England. There are some examples on this link, you won't find one exactaly the same.

I thought the saxons lived in the northern and eastern part of the land. But these circular mounts look similar. Were they used for clothing? Thanks for the link. Lots to read!

More likely a Harness Mount, but a Mount could be used on a lot of things...including clothing :read2:

I wouldn't say rare, but I wouldn't say common either. It's a very good find one I would be very proud to find :icon_thumleft:

I agree, it looks like a harness mount, the reverse fixings make me think Roman (is that possible in your area)?

There were roman finds in this field too. What confused me are the ornaments.

The pins on the back look like iron....
Then it could have possibly have been a circular mount for a sheild boss, that would explain the four fixing points on the back :read2:

seems a central mount Saxon shield. (also can be Goth or Visigoths) of early Christian peoples of central Europe. :-\

Sorry for asking....A mount on a shield boss? For decorating? Central mount saxon shield? This one is about 5cm in diameter.

Yes and that would be the right size, for a circular sheild mount, a decrative mount in the centre of the sheild Boss :icon_thumleft:

Yes it very well might be Roman, it could also be a mount for various things, Bowl Mount, Harness, or Shield
