These are yesterday's finds. Two small broken hammered silver coins. A couple of lead medieval tokens, another medieval key. A 17th century button. Best of all a lead 13th century seal matrix. This is a seal of somebody, who would have had a little wealth. Therefore that person would have had to place their seal on documents . Maybe a farmer, lead seals were the lowest form of seal. Had loads of these over the years, but they still give me a buzz to find. The inscription on the matrix, is written in Latin , and will give the owner's name and possibly a place name. These worn lead seals are very difficult to read, and I certainly can't read this one. Robert.

If you try doing a pencil rubbing of it, you may be able to read it better because it can pick up a little more detail than what is readily visible...

It doesn't help that may of them couldn't spell their own name, & you get lots of foreign names, particularly the French & Dutch, so just adds to the difficulty. They offen say things like 'John Son of ......'

Yes always a pleasant sign, not had a complete one for awhile now.

True Cru, there a nightmare to read.

Way cool. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent finds. Do you guys typically do an impression in wax to help aid in reading?

Amazing seal Rob.

Rob,

Nice seal and surprising it has remained intact all those years.

Amazing finds!!!!

I do have a quick question....Aren't there some fairly strict laws about what you can dig and keep in England due to the historical significance??
