Oh yeah witgar, it looks like 1503 to me. That's a great find, a religious medalion from the turn of the 16th century, a huge congratulations!
Any museum would love to have that.

Welcome to Tnet.

I guess the dates are commemorating a famous event or persons life. ie. born in 1503 died in 1566. Research along these lines.

Seems he is studying the stars?

I hope this will give clues to the better researchers on this site.

Good luck.

I guess it was made in 1666 (100 year anniversary of his deaf)

The way its cracking, I would say it is a lead-alloy, maybe Pewter. Pewter would have made it look silver which means they could have sold it for more money.

I still think it likely to be made in the 17th century.

Its a very nice piece & maybe you should consider taking it to a Nostradamus expert for further study. This could be a rare piece.

I agree... you should consider pewter!

And the way CRUSADER knew it was a man studying the stars, and to look at birth / death dates which directly led to the successful conclusion by DCMatt that it was Nostradamus outta tell ya' that CRUSADER is the MAN! Credit I should have given when Matt did, recognizing CRUSADER's splendorific abilities with all things ancient!

Hi!

Thank you all for everything and all the tips!
I now see indeed the stars etc. but I wouldn't have figured anything out without you guys.
Though I still wonder about the symbol on the lowerhand of the medal and the stick on the right.

It's pretty difficult to find a nostradamusexpert still alive these days, but I'm looking around to contact some writers on Nostradamus...if anybody still has some ideas or tips, don't hesitate ;)

Thanks alot!
Warm greetings from Belgium,

You know I was pulling you leg, no credit needed. I enjoy it when I pluck a guess from the air with only looking at it for 2 minutes. Then I surprise myself by nearly getting it.

No problems, we are a keen bunch, some of which spent hours researching for FREE!

All I can add about the symbols is that if you study what nostradamus did you will work out what they mean.

I can speculate about the symbols (Hey, I work for the government. It's what I do...).

The large round symbol is Earth. The smaller circle above it is the moon. We already know about the stars (Thanks to CRUSADER). The object on the other side of the man might be an astronomical instrument or possibly a symbol of "the other side of his life" (medicine).

As I said, just speculation.

There are a number of Nostradamus organizations around. I'm sure they would be interested in this find.

I believe the symbol at the extream bottom of the piece is a "fleur-de-lis" (flower of the lily). Commonly used by the French in royalty heraldry.

Now I see it! The symbol behind the man is a lectern with an open book on it. A symbol of learning and teaching... It's a crude likeness, but I'm confident that's what it is.
