Any idea if it is Pewter? if not do you know what it is made out of it? well if you do not know that either only thing I can say is I know "The Land Down Under" :occasion14: is famous for FOSTERS but also is rich in history from the Dutch and Great Britain settling in during the 17th and 18th century (sorry most of us here on treasurenet are american based but there are members from all over the world) It looks like a medallion.rosette but then again i do not know! It would be interesting too know what it is made out of and what others on here will have info about! Welcome to Treasurenet!

Ok thanks for that info! That may help others.. I mean to me honestly I have dug colonial and 19th c. pewter/lead,etc here in America like rosettes, buttons, different kind of decoration pieces, etc and depending on the material it is made out of,etc! It comes out looking as worn as the artifact in question you have! Now I do not know much about The Land Down Under artifacts, etc and what the soil does to artifacts over there. But if you dug this in a place that was occupied by 3,000 migrant workers in the 1950s and 1960s then HEY it must be from that time period right? Or maybe just maybe there was earlier activity on the site you are hunting that dates wayyyy back in time or MAYBE one of the workers had a ancient piece of artifact for good luck they carried with them and lost it? get what I'm saying? I do not know honestly what you have but it looks interesting and old and worn out but again I really hope someone can ID this for you because I would love too know what it is myself! Good luck.

If a coin expert said it's copper than I am stumped. I do not think copper from the 1950s and 1960s would be this worn out but maybe so? maybe some cheap copper or something. I don't know but it looks interesting enough too take it to another coin dealer for a 2nd opinion.

with some help from another forum overseas we have finally found it ... yippee yahoo

This is an Ullr medal; a talisman carried by Central European skiers, supposedly invoking the Germanic god of winter. The one face bears the German federal eagle on a shield with the legend "Schutz-patron aller Winter-sportler" (guardian-patron of all winter athletes). The other has the letters ULLR above the usual figure with pointed cap, skis, and a bow. Wide variety in design, but this one's pretty close. It sure was found a long way from home

Just a modern base/white/junk metal. It's obviously not copper, just look at all the copper coins and buttons you see posted - they're not eaten around the edge like that. Trust me this isn't the first time someone has come back and posted bad info. they received from a coin dealer, although to not know copper from junk metal is very strange.
