Picked this up on Mon. along with some old button's....It measure's around 2" by 3/16th's,I accidently bent it trying to get it out of the brick hard ground.Any Idea's on what it is and the age maybe....Thank's

Size and composition (thin brass shell, backfilled with lead) are right for a mid 19th century civilian horse bridle rosette. Of course, a lot of these saw Civil War usage, too.

Originally, there would have been a wire loop or bar embedded in lead on the back, for attachment to the strap.

No argument from me... I agree with PBK.

Coulda' been a compact cover if not lead filled...

You might be right, Gypsy. All that crud looked like lead backfill, though, and that's what the post header said.

i've dug a few and that is a rossette, heres a couple of mine .all are lead filled backed nice find Civilman
