I feel like this had to be more than just a decorative piece to wear. It had to have some meaning, some purpose for wearing it. The back is blank and smooth but it looks as though it had something attached to it at one time. Found at an old house place from the 1940's. Any info would be appreciated.

I'm guessing that's a pheonix. Might help in solving if it is

What kind of metal is it in your best opinion?

The emblem is the "Imperial Eagle" of the Prussian (German) Empire. It was on some German Army buttons until the end of the Empire shortly after World War One. The photo below shows it on a German NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer) button from WW1.

The metal looks like copper/ copper alloy with the remnants of gold gilt on the back much like a button. Good leads to start from, Thanks

with cbguys clue I found that it is also an insignia common for octoberfest celebrations...this is a modern sticker...octoberfest.webp...this shirt is also octoberfest item....octoberfest shirt.webp...it is possibly an octoberfest hat pin...no doubt used to depict many german themes.

I think you nailed it bigfoot1... The imperial eagle mentioned above has 2 heads... A german cap badge makes perfect sense... Oddcoins found a german coin a couple weeks ago that had a similar design on the reverse... Thanks a lot man! Thanks to bryanhashemi and thecannonballguy for getting the ball rolling.... Will mark as solved.
