Went metal detecting with my 'ol buddy Texan Connection on Sunday at the 1872 house of the towns founder and I found this. Just a crusted piece of pot metal I thought...until I thought I saw some writing on it. After cleaning this is what came to light. Can anyone give me some information on this piece? Many thanks!

Hmm, you're right, that is odd. Seems like according to the date it should be the 44 th conclave.

Maybe by their accounting April of 97 was the end of the 43rd, kinda like 2000 was the last year of the 20th century.

Also, why does it say HOUSTON when the event was held in San Antonio?

The link states they were held in different places for each conclave. So maybe yours was from the year before and was held in Houston.

For that matter, why does it show the Alamo in Houston, when it's physically located in San Antonio? :icon_scratch:

FWIW: A quick Google brings up "Proceedings of the Annual Conclave of the Grand Commandery Knights Templar...".
It claims the 43rd Annual was held in Houston, April 21 & 22.
