OK, I can't do it. I tried several hours searching with all of the different descriptors of this item and nothing comes close. Most of the 8-point star items were European and the Great Seal of the U.S. rules that out. I'm hoping that someone might have seen something like this somewhere in their travels.
The metal appears to be bronze with a rough feel to it front and back. The seal is raised with no outer ring. The measure from star tip to opposing star tip is 1 5/8 inches, except for the span to the upper point which is 1 7/8 inches. At the top of the upper tip are opposing pins that probably connected to whatever suspended the piece.
The item was found approximately five inches deep in the athletic field of a school that was built in the 1920's on a former polo field which operated in the turn of the 1900's.
Thank you for anyone's consideration in venturing an opinion as to what this might have been.
