That would be one Advantage for Me Hollow.

I can Swim in Poison Ivy & not get it ;D

Never Brag :(

Last week I decided to Mow some Poison.

Must have been rubbing it into my Sweaty arm then rubbing my right Eye.

of course I guess it could have been Oak, don't know the Difference.

Got it on the inside my arm, Between my fingers & on my eye lid :P
all on my right side.

Re: Me & My Big Mouth.

Sounds like a nasty deal Jeff,
hope it gets better soon.

I, like you have never had poision ivy
or had any reactions to alergies,
but the older I get, the more my body seems
to be affected now by some of these.
Now when I mow the lawn,
I get all stuffed up for a couple days.

Feel better soon.

Smiles!

Re: Me & My Big Mouth.

I've never had poison ivy, Jeff.....I could swim in it and not get it. Eeerrrr....maybe I shouldn't have said that. :-\ ;)

I hope it passes soon, Jeff. 8)

Re: Me & My Big Mouth.

the odd think is, If I don't touch it, it Dosn't itch.
But when I rub against it, it starts itching and it's hard to stop.

Is this Normal ?

Re: Me & My Big Mouth.

that sucks jeff! i read somewhere that you have to come into contact with the oil that causes an irritation several times in your life before you will start to develop a rash. in other words, you probably were immune to it before you came into contact with it a few times. :'( how bad do you have it on your face? (thats the part that really sucks in my opinion). hang in there.........it will be gone in 7 to 10 days. ::)

Re: Me & My Big Mouth.

I'm 31 one years old and have spent most of my waking hours out and about.. never got poison ivy, walk through it, roll in it, I wouldn't get it... got it this year. Was doing some digging is some plants, pulling them out cutting sod looking for "treasure" and wouldn't ya know it.. that stuff really sucks!! I only had a little patch on my arm and hand.. probably from pulling and breaking the plant up thus getting lots of the oil on my skin. So I went on the internet to learn about it now that I have joined the rest of the people afflicted by this noxious weed. I found this out: There are two types of people, those who get it and those who will get it. You might not be too alergic to it but if you mess around with it enough you WILL get it- :o

Re: Me & My Big Mouth.

My sympathies on this. I've gotten Poison Ivy only once, when we found the old family graveyard in Arkansas.

Before clearing out the ol' graveyard, I'd been immune. Ha. Apparently we bruised enough of the leaves and stems surface to become covered in the oils. Wow, I'd never felt that bad before, and I've not been that uncomfortable since!

IF you can get hold of it, I'd recommend Emu Oil. Although I read (on that site stoney suggested)that aloe vera straight from the plant works well, as does Tea Tree oil.

Good luck - and sympathy,
Nan

Re: Me & My Big Mouth.

Jeff,

I feel your pain. We had some trees that I climbed to cut some branches off and thought it was a vine and was pulling it off with my bare hands. My waist to my knees was the only safe zone. Could not put my fingers together because of the blisters it causes and did not sleep for about 2 days. The doctor gave me a shot of cortisone and said to call the next day. If not better, he would put me in the hospital. No Hospital for me, the shot worked. I opened up all the blisters and dunked my arms in dilute bleach water. It burned like a hot poker, but the next day I had some crusty areas and tremendous relief. Have also tried table salt too. Works great (again, hot poker). Not saying to use bleach, but that is what I did several years ago. No, I'm not sadistic, but feel the short amount of pain is better than the constant itching. Swimming may help as well as you are soaking in a dilute chlorine water.

When it involves the eyes, I would definitely go the doctor/hospital. You don't want to mess with your eyes. Hope you are feeling better soon Jeff. This is a real bummer. High humidity makes it worse (at least for me).

Re: Me & My Big Mouth.

Funny you should mention vines.
There were some growing up the Foundation on my house. While
I was mowing, I stopped. and started yanking the vines down
and then mowed them up after I had a pile on the ground.
This is probably where I got it.
I never paid attention to what it was.

Re: Me & My Big Mouth.

Jeff, sorry to hear about your bout with Poison Ivy. My hubby thinks because he has NEVER gotton attacked by the monster POISON IVY, he will NEVER get it. He is so thick headed. On avg, our body goes through changes about every 7 years. You prob ate strawberries all your life, then at age 26, you broke out and found out you are allergic to strawberries. You may never have liked the taste of cottage cheese, but at age 35, you could not get enough of cottage cheese.

I hope you feel better soon and it goes away quickly!!!!

On another note.......Happy Hunting.........Annmarie

Re: Me & My Big Mouth.

again Thanks Everyone.

And yes Ann, I noticed less Tolerance to certain things as I get older.

Oh Well,

I got a 4 PM appt. at the Med center.

Hopefully that helps.

May be nerves, & reading out one eye, But I can add Headache to my Symptoms now too :P

Re: Me & My Big Mouth.

Jeff,

With the poison around the eyes I would bet on a shot. Had the same thing 2 winters ago DEC 2004. Good news is it will get better. Bads news is you can get it again. Get well.
