We went to our normal hunting spot in a Chicago public park like any other day. Everything was cool.
I found a 1920 Merc, that is the end of my 71 day silver coin drought so I was happy.

I was detecting when I saw Goio saying something to me. I took off my headphones,
when I say a young guy maybe 16 - 20 years old throw a bottle at him. It missed him, but not by much.
The guy was like 15 feet away from us. I guess Goio was diging a plug when the first bottle came sailing
right passed his head. Everytime he threw a bottle he tried to rush up on us. He prolly thought we would
drop our detectors and he could run up and grab it. Well he got really close like 10 feet from me and whipped
another bottle at me, I saw it coming right for my head so I blocked it with my forearm. Just as before he tried
to rush me. This time I raised my shovel up and said "I'm gonna cut your %$&*@# head off!!!" well he took 1
step forward then ran off. He had another buddy off like 100 feet or so. Prolly ready to call his boys if anything
happened to him.

I wish I could of got my hands on him, I would of messed him up good. But my luck, he prolly is underage and I
would go to jail!!! He was whipping those bottels hard like he played baseball or some thing. The bottle that hit me
didn't blowup on impact, it bounced off. But now I have a big lump on my forearm, but that better than a broken
nose!!!! God I hate thiefs. The thing that bothers me most is that he tried to smash a bottle on Goios head when
he wasn't expecting it. Coward!!!! I atleast knew that a bottle was coming at me.

Oh yea, we still have all of our gear - he got nothing from us.

here are the pix that I took of todays hunt.

Those little sh*ts! What a bunch of punks! You came through OK...could have been a lot worse, from what I've heard about that place from some dudes I know. Did you guys take off after the attack? Man. That incident just kills any ambition I've got about that place. Glad to see you guys are OK.

Joe

p.s. congratulations on the silver! If you guys wanna give that place a break, let me know, we can hit one of the much safer parks I've been hitting! lol

Perhaps you should start a new video series titled, "Diggin' History while Fighting off Bottle Clockers"...I can see it now. Action-packed metal detecting. Can I be in your videos??? lol

Wow, time to start metal detecting armed! Little sh!ts like that need a good tazer shot in the nuts ;D
Be careful going back, they may start planning for your next return to the park. Might want to try using earbuds or something that let's you keep an ear free.
On the bright side at least you found some silver for your bloodshed, nice find!

Yeah, that was a scary situation. While I was digging a target I saw those two teenager scouting us, not like the other people we have met at the park before wondering what we are doing. I saw these guys with the intent to do something so I kept my eyes on them. One of them approach me and ask for the time so I gave it to him and then he left, about 50 feet away I spot them looking at us again with that look like he wanted something. I was still on my knees covering the plug when I heard a whoosh pass next to me and I quickly turn around to see what it was and saw a bottle flying across the field! then I saw this guy running pass me so I got up and then he called his body to come over. they guy picked up another bottle and he was just staring at me, I pulled my digger out to scare him off but that didn't help, he was just standing there ready to aim. at this point Treasurefiend was still working on a target! I kept working my way toward my buddy's sight not keeping my eyes off this this guy till finally TF saw me and I could let him know that we had trouble. This guy was persistent, It was the two of us with shovels on our hands and lesche diggers but he kept coming!! Not Good. I have hunted the same spot plenty of times by myself with no problem, no more! :o

Well here are my finds. Thanks TF for letting me dig your bloody silver!!

i think you guys are just too pretty looking, all the men want ya,not your tectors'..................sorry,couldn't resist, glad your both ok.we should meet there sometime and give these punks a lesson :angry5: :cussing: :angry4:

Good to hear you're okay but hey, better you than me. Just washed my undies for this season.

Always best to immediately concede to their demands, tell them the real goods are in the car and get them to it while there's only a couple, then pop 'em and put 'em in the trunk until you can get 'em to a taxidermist.

I agree with Tfiend, if they want to rob you at least have the balls to confront you face to face,
not throw a bottle at someone that isn't looking. If he was over 16 and whipping bottles at peoples heads, he was old enough to get his a$$ kicked!!! I don't think the cops would care his age if you showed them you arm or Goio told them about the bottle whipping past his head.

Congrats on your new machine and the silver!

LOL - that was the easiest silver that I have ever found!!!! :icon_pirat:
Great finds bud!!!
We just got to stay in a more populated section of the park next time.

That's messed up! Be careful if you ever plan on going back, you never know how many punks are around the corner. I have a feeling neither of you would of gave up those minelabs without a fight . If you do go back make sure to park close to where your hunting, just in case you have to whip someone's ass and get out of there in a hurry. HH

Thanks everyone for all the advice and concerns, We did not report the incident to the police yesterday cause there where none around! we usually see cops either walking, bike riding or driving around all the time but yesterday was not to be. Weird!! If TF is willing to hunt tomorrow, the plan is to go back to the park, different spot but same park and report the incident to any police officer we meet.

You're going to tell the cops exactly what? Someone threw a bottle at you? They're gonna tell you what they told me sometime back when I was hitting a neighborhood park near there.
"What the !@#!$ are you doing here Shorty?"

That's why I only hit that area very early on in the day, and get out early too.

But I gotta hand it to the desperados that came after you guys. Kermit is no small potatos and anyone that eats hot wings like Goio, well you gotta be able to spit fire across the street on demand. Maybe they just wanted to kill themselves, as opposed to taking your goodies?!?

First congratulation on your first expirience with natives in the field.Tim is right get in early first light is always best as the natives are sound asleep or passed out at that time beep till about 10am 11am at the latest as this is when the crack heads start coming out of the darkness.Rule 1 dont ignore them either leave or throw the bottle back(expirience as a baselball pitcher comes in handy) Rule 2...do not chase them into confined area like trees or around buildings.Rule 3 use a sharp digging instrument like a Leshke for protection. Rule 4 always hunt these areas with a partner never alone and if your blessed like i am to have crazy Lowbatts as a partner you will have the advantage on your side.Rule 5 If you have to arm yourself to dig Memorial collectibles or wheaties then maybe it's time to find a new place. My next lesson will be on what to do with bodies....but thats another day!

That's one reason to save wetlands.

it wouldnt have mattered to me what their age was if i was hit and bleeding like you! id of pounded the snot out of him! but like was said, dont ever chase someone into a confinded or blinded spot. traps like that are hard to back out of once in!and ofcourse always keep a eye out and be aware of your surroundings.
