Friend of mine who I dig with broke the WORLD RECORD for catching a 17.6 pound snakehead

AT first it looked like he tied the world record Saturday for a Snakehead it was caught in Stafford,Virginia a 17.6 pound Snakehead, it was certified weigh in @ Greentop in Richmond! Caught down @ the Potomac Creek/Aquia Creek where we do lot of fishing, metal detecting and hunting. The world record was caught in Japan 17.4 pounds. There was a supposedly a 18.4 one caught last year in the same water but the angler did not officially weigh it correctly or brought it too a certified weigh in so it was never on the books! My friend just got married last month so a good gift! He is also going to be on Fox 5 News in DC. World record snakehead from Aquia Creek? | Mighty Outdoors

Also dug this today in Stafford. a 1925 Buffalo Nickel... 4 hours of hunting and that was it. Didn't even dig any shotgun shells, only signals today were iron and the buffalo nickel!

Congrats to your friend, that's an awsome accomplishment to get a world record catch. And congrats on your buffalo hunt.

Nice work to your friend. We need to kill as many of those things as possible.

Kill them all

Dig until your arm falls off

I fish that exact site and have caught snakeheads almost 4 ft long. I never thought to weigh one though. Nice find! Im detecting more towards the rappahannock river now.

Congrats to your friend for breaking the world snakehead record. World record in anything is something to be proud of. Its hard to believe that the first wild snakeheads were only discovered around the DC-MD-VA area about ten years ago. Its amazing that since that time they have thrived so well that the local fish are breaking world records. Do you and your fishing buddies eat them? I hear that they are quite tasty.
