MD in Oregon

I used to live In Seattle WA and went to OR all the time.
Lots of nice beaches on the coast. You won't regret the trip. I have an ACE 250 as well but never used it on the beach yet, but I am told it does better on the dry sand...that wet sand gives bum signals.

Thanks Robert Roy!
I have used my Ace 250 and have been happy with it too. I turned down the sensitivity when I was in wet sand. It helped. The Seattle area is great. We visited last year. Have you heard any feed back regarding the locals in coastal Oregon? Do they mind metal detecting on their beaches, especially in the small resort areas?
Thanks!

Im in OR and I dont care if you detect on our beach! However, I am going to require a permission slip signed by every resident in the towns you are visiting...Just to make it offical ;) ;) ;) ;D ;D ;D

Hey Stormtrooper;
You're too kind!!!! Could you get some MD tips from the locals while your collecting permission slips?
Thanks for the response.

I have never hunted a beach before...But I assume to dig all signals, because it doesnt belong there LOL

I don't know if you have ever been to the oregon coast (I grew up in Oregon)....but in most places it is a huge expansive beach...lots of room, not as many people to fill it all. You may want to find an area that has a concentration of people and hunt it early mornings...probably your best bet on finding something good.

Hello again Saythree:

One thing to keep in mind when traveling to Seattle WA and OR, while the people are all ( for the most part ) really nice, there has been along history of general antagonism towand people flooding WA and OR buying up realestate when it was really cheap, making it next to impossibe for the little guy to buy his/her own piece of property and houses as well. I was in Seattle from 1989 to 1999 when someone decided to inform the whole of the USA that Seattle was the most livable city and applauding how inexpensive homes were, as indeed they were. BAM!!!!! Word spread like wildfire! We got the biggest flood since Noah only it was a flood of people many from NY but alot of Californians selling their homes and buying two, sometimes three homes as an investment. Suddenely prices went skyhigh. The folks in OR had the same problems years before. In Seattle, it wasn't uncommon to read in the news and hear on TV news about people from CA getting their tires slashed....all because they had Calif plates on their car or plates from NY Texas. The uproar has settled down...been really quite in the Pacific Northwest these days, as far as I know.

No, your not likely to get your tires slashed. Most of that has died out. The point is that when you visit up that way to go out of your way to be friendly, ask permission. I 've been in and out of WA and OR since and I know there is still an under current of hard feelings. But I have never had any problems. I lived in Californai before I moved to Seattle in 1989, but I got my license plates changed real fast!

You must visit Coos Bay. There are some great sand dunns up that way. Bandon is a nice vacation spot. Memory is not serving me too well right now but I that there is a National Landmark in Bandon regarding a building that was built by Lewis and Clark. Check it out.

Regards
Robert Roy

Thanks Robert Roy!!! Your response was quite informative. We live in Dallas, and will be renting a car in Portland, so, thank heavens, we won't have that problem. People in Colorado do not like Texans for the same reason...real estate gobbling.
Keep in touch!!
