I babysit a three-year-old boy every other Saturday. He likes playing outside and on several occasions he's asked me to use the metal detector. He is always disappointed to know that shaft is too long and it's very heavy for a for a 3'5" tall boy like him. Does anyone know the best metal detector for the kid like this? I definitely don't want to pay more than 50 bucks, and aim for under 35. I also want it to be quality so it actually works and isn't just a further disappointment. Once again it should fit a three-year-old boy who is 3'5" tall.

Thanks!

Happy hunting!

whatever you find that is cheap... maybe you can modify/fabricate the shaft, making it easier for him... or tell him to wait 20 years, his hobby is for adults!:laughing7:

The Bounty Hunter Junior is a kid-sized metal detector, and real VLF 2-knob motion discriminator at that. Price tag is normally in the vicinity of $55-75. Anything else in that price range or below is not what either of us would call a "real" metal detector.

yeh i was leaning towards the bounty hunter junior but a bit expensive considering i only watch him every 14 days, he is not related to me, and it might not be as fun for him as toting the shovel and finds after all:dontknow:!

dont u think?

thx

happy hunting

Too young. Better off you using yours and letting him be part of it. Just don't use headphones.

Their right, he is far too young to enjoy the hobby as it should be. He is interested simply because you are doing it, if he was to get a machine for his use at that age he would tire of it quickly since kids dont have patience like we do. Kids change hobbies too often to bother buying him something like that. If you want him to be part of the fun, buy him a centec pin pinpointer, cheap and he can have fun with it.

Build him a fake one.Get a battery pack, some kind of battery powered buzzer and a mercury switch.hook it up so when he swings it the mercury switch makes the connection go on and off.build it out of pcv and pine.wouldnt be to hard at all.

WOW. Nice one. If I can't find anything affordable I just might do this😃. U R on the 💸.

I know that he is too young, I never thought he'd actually be interested. But when I took the md out, he waited patiently for like a few minutes before he snatched the shovel to dig worms.even when he was digging up worms, he was still twitchy to see what I found.
Anything at all? Doesn't even need to be good, just functional enough to detect SOMETHING. When I say"functional" I don't mean one-touch, automatic ground balance and state of the art. I mean a BASIC detector, but NOT cardboard cutout basic.

Sorry, don't have kids.. To me, this sounds like a CIA interrogation method that has probably been band!!

I bought my 5 year old a green Ground EFX Cyclone from Wally World for $20 on clearance. Works great for his needs and he has found some interesting stuff in our yard.
