Found a small cup that is at least silver plate. It is very tarnished but buffs up easily to a silver colour. The bottom is marked with 2 sets of letters one clearly says "INDIA" the other I can't read very well. I almost think it says "BRNZ" but that doesn't make sense to me (unless it is silver plated bronze) but why would India mark like that?). Sorry no picture but does anyone know any common Indian silver markings? Thanks.

more information: through looking through different magnifiers I am pretty sure it is EPNS. My question now is what would they plate over: Brass? Copper?. Thanks.

I hope EPNS doesn't mean elctroplate not silver  I think all imoprts and us silver had to have a mark of streling or 925 on them. Older silver pieces had brand hallmarks stamped in them. Is it magentic ? Silver is not so that is an easy test.

Googles EPNS and it stands for electroplated nickel silver. Nickel silver is 60% copper, 20% nickel and 20% zinc, also known as german silver.
