Man, they were hard work if you had to drill a bunch of holes like running conduit and such during frame-up and such. That's why they invented spade bits and 18 volt cordlesses.

I actually still use mine on ocassion and if its sharp it will peel thru a pine or fur 2x4 in a bout 4 and a half revolutions once its started. It aint Pretty but its fast. I keep it handy if I m running some Plumbing or Electrical. I hate changing bits and screwing around so to speak so its alway loaded in the box and ready to go I have wrapped my wrist more time s thasn I care to talk about using the motor to drill the large holes and especially if i need to angle slightly. Just more control with the auger bit and brace.

Its not a screwdriver shaft because there are two pieces of wires twisting down toward the head. The point is in a pyramid shape with 4 sides.

Actually Masonlid, the 4-sided pyramid is the end that goes into the brace end, like the smooth end of a bit going into a drill chuck. The other end should have a spade end w/a chisel point at the middle. There are different types. but I tjimk I'm describing it correctly. In any case, HH.
