You're ok. You need to clean it to be able to tell better.

Problem with iron coming out of moist ground or saltwater environment is that when it oxidizes quite often it expands unevenly and can be misleading.

That appears to be in really bad condition whatever it is and may have lost a lot of it's original metal. You certainly have a challenge cleaning that.
