found in my colonial hole, most stuff ranges in the 1720's, but not sure if this button has the same shape, it silver colour not sure if silver tho, and it is blank, could I be missing something? or was it made this way
It's a Tombac button, you can see where it's been turned on lathe on the back. It's not silver, typically copper/zinc alloy. 18th century button....nice find!
Doesn't look like it--many were plain flat fronts--women wore them as fashion statements as opposed to functioning as fasteners in this era from what I know. I just dug one too yesterday and mine was plain, but it's a nice button to find.
gotta love how they made buttons back then, turning on a lathe, now they are just stamped, or made in molds. Much more pride taken in manufacturing back then. Awesome find, i love buttons
