I picked this up in the river yesterday in Idaho. There is definitely no shortage of smooth rocks, but this one caught my eye. The flat end looks like it has some heavy pitting from crushing/grinding. The cross section is oval.

Hard to swear to it’s history, but I like it and would have kept it too. Congrats on the find.
 

yes and no... I can find those pretty much all the time and they are natural. On the other hand, those are what pestles were made from, a common shape that could be easily modified slightly and used. The tell would be the business end...yes it should show wear, but it should also be flattened.

Thanks for all the replies! By flattened, like 90 degrees to the main body instead of slanted?
