Weather was windy but not cold & it made the wet field much less sticky on top & better overall conditions. We spent 5 hours finishing gridding the site which will be a shame to leave, but we have other options to explore.
I've been playing with the Deus 11" coil & I now have some setting that I'm happy with, well at least on that type of Roman Site. I was worried the 11" on 12Khz & 55 Disc might knock out some of the small stuff but as my photo with the sixpence proves, it works a treat. I like to hoover up all the tiny stuff, it makes me feel like I'm missing nothing & builds my confidence. Confidence in your machine being one of the strongest assets, I think.

18 Roman Coins - very good total for this lower corner of the site
2 of the Roman Coins were reverse types we have never had - album coins
1858 Sixpence
Bezel of a Roman Ring
Tudor Swivel piece
Tiny Buckle - Maybe Saxon but more likely Medieval Spur Strap type
Bits....

I bet in some ways it can be sad to leave some sites but then again you seem to be very proficient at finding more places to hunt. you obviously have a well established system on your gridding and it sounds like you are happy with the 11 inch coil. you have found some amazing things and I always enjoy your posts. and thanks for the pm response. Jerry

Either that's one small buckle and Roman, or that's a Vickie Half Crown. Very nice way of being "FINISHED" till the next ploughing.

That site seems to be producing. It will be still there next year and after a plow. Moving on to explore other sites will give you more options. You can never have enough fields.

Nicely done, is the roman ring bezel that tiny thing you palced on the sixpence?

How did it ring in on the Deus?

No, its the item under the the 1700s Buckle. But the tiny Roman Coin rang out fine thanks.

Hi Cru, did I read that right, 55 discrim ?.

Yes, on this site, anything higher would be murder. Its full of 'green' waste.

Man , That may well be the tiniest coin I've ever seen ! That buckle is dinky too . I'll always love those Vicky silvers !

Its a Sixpence, so they are both tiny. I used to get quite a few of those tiny late 4th C coins, its just that I hardly ever put them next to a scale, they are normally just mixed in with all the other small Roman Coins. If I can find them with the Deus on 55 Discrim then it makes me happy that I'm missing very little, other than a bit of depth??

Gz on nice finds !
