Found this metal detecting 12/7/2014. I have done a platinum acid test on it and its looking good. I have ruled most everything else as its not magnetic. Too hard to be silver. Next test I am gonna try on my own is specific gravity. I am trying to get ahold of an assayer that I met a year and a half ago. Is it natural placer platinum? Hopefully, my next thread will be under, "What's it worth?"

Wow! Hope it turns out for you. I've panned gold locally that is silver colored due to mercury. Is that a possibility? I'm just a hobby panner, so not near an expert. I know mine had mercury because it was in a small vial with other gold, and it turned all the gold in the vial silver.

Not gonna give away me spot but I found it in So Cal desert. I am gonna run some gold acid test on it to rule out mercury on gold.

Platinum generally doesn't come up in pieces that large. What do you mean the platinum acid test looks good so far?

I soaked it for the last 24 hours in Muriatic acid and basically nothing came off of it. I found some professional guys to take it to so we will see.ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1418949875.398916.jpg

Waiting for results ? Updates
Saw on a forum that some Aussies were talking about dropping a Platinum nugget in hydrogen peroxide and if it bubbles, its creating oxygen and it is platinum. My nugget did just that! Still waiting to take it to a professional to get tested.

Does that mean my skin is platinum because peroxide bubbles on it?
