Mason's Ruby and Sapphire Mine in NC

My Brother and I went to Mason's ruby and Sapphire Mine in Franklin North Carolina Saturday Oct 27. Supernice folks running this place. Very helpful and friendly. They made sure that all the kids that were there either found some or they gave them some before they left. $20 all day dig your own native dirt no salted buckets all native stones. while we were there some of the big finds of people were 37c, 19c, 10c some 9c and some 5c. lots of smaller3,2,1 etc found all day. We had a blast and we will be back. We found mostly smaller stuff my brother had 19c total weight an i had 45c total (a couple of 5c a couple of 3c and a bunch of smaller gems)Their website is

Re: Mason's Ruby and Sapphire Mine in NC

heres some tips on photographing those stones.
Back up!, set your camera to Macro mode which is symbolized by a flower looking thing and then zoom in as far as your camera will go then get as close as you can by hand while still maintaining focus. use a good lightsource to help your camera avoid camera shake, open the aperature too and use a filmspeed/ ISO setting of 400 or so, using a good light source will allow you to get a good pic without using flash, flash often washes out or causes harsh reflections on gems.
hope this helps and i look forward to seeing some better pics
