I agree it appears to be a Key of some type.

I can't say for sure it is Broken though

Not that it helps much in identifying exactly what it is or was, but on the side opposite the compass and square symbol there seems to be a "T" on the right side, and I'm presuming that a K may be on the left side, to give you a KT, for Knights Templar.

I like the watch winder idea but I have never seen one angled at 90 degrees. Can't find anything similar online either.

Ohhh, I see, it works in a crank fashion rather than a straight key. Cool, I'd never seen one like that, but with that info I see others online now too. Good ID Iron Patch.
