Masonic What's It

This was found at a site that had yielded about 10 cut silver coins, dozens of flat buttons, and colonial buckles. Any ideas?

I could be wrong but it kinda looks like a broken key to me.

I agree it appears to be a Key of some type.

I can't say for sure it is Broken though

Not that it helps much in identifying exactly what it is or was, but on the side opposite the compass and square symbol there seems to be a "T" on the right side, and I'm presuming that a K may be on the left side, to give you a KT, for Knights Templar.

But my first guess is winder of some type also.

Pretty definitive that this is an 18th century watch winder. The key end of mine is missing.

Ohhh, I see, it works in a crank fashion rather than a straight key. Cool, I'd never seen one like that, but with that info I see others online now too. Good ID Iron Patch.
