Martingale with heart

Finally the snow and ground is melting up here in Northern Vermont, and it is once again Metal Detection Season has started.
Got out for a few hours and found this great item. It appears to be a Horse Martingale. It is brass with probably lead back. It is 2 1/4 inches in diameter. There are two iron posts on the back top and bottom.
In Lords, Civil War Collector's Encyclopedia there is a similar one on page 129, bottom center, but it is not exact. It is shown as a civil war calvalry heart martingale.
Does anyone have any information as to if this is civilian or military, (or both). Thanks...Lance

Sorry, I can't reflect on the find,....I don't know to much about those items. BUT, I like it ;D

I'll be following the post to see what info you get on it.

I think you've got something really cool here! Perhaps there is some serious history here!
