Marker's mark on silver?

Hello!

I dug this a couple days ago in Portland Oregon. Looks like the outer ring of a pocket watch. I'm thinking it is silver, but? . . . . I found these marking after cleaning it up a little. Looks like a Lion and a "G". I took a couple close-up pic's and it weights 12.1 grams.

Can anyone tell me what these images mean? How old it is?

THANKS!
Neil

Passant Lion left is Sterling Silver...with the date letter G, which is 1942.

Your find is indeed the ring which held a pocketwatch's glass face-cover. You already know some or all of the following "Hallmarks" info. I'm including it because there may be other readers here who don't already know all of it. The hallmark (maker's-mark) showing a "Lion Passant" (walking lion) means it was made in Britain, and is made of Sterling silver (92.5% silver). The G marked in a recessed flat-cornered square is a British "Date-letter" ...but there are too many nearly-identical G date-marks for me figure out the year without your silver having a "City" hallmark. I guess the city-mark was somewhere else on the pocketwatch. Keep hunting that spot to see if you can find the rest of the pocketwatch.

Edit: Silver Searcher and I were typing our replies at the same time. He finished before I did.
