Could anyone tell me if there is any gold bearing streams around the Marietta Georgia area. I will be heading down there in October and I have only a few things I want to do. One is pan for gold and the other is to Fish. The two go hand in hand. I would appreciate any information. Also, is there gators in that area or is it lower Georgia? Just don't want my wife to drive back home by herself that's all! HAHAHAA

Hey Steve,
Cherokee County (just north of Marietta) is in the proximity of the gold bearing region of Georgia and many of the lakes and streams will carry gold in fine consistency.
The trick in Georgia is to gain access to the waterways through owners permission as much of the gold bearing strata is now in a large population belt and public lands available for prospecting lie north of the gold belt.

Some areas on Lake Allatoona are open to panning (just panning, no detectors or anything else) and you should check with the Corp of Engineers on that. I believe they provide maps.

And no, Gators are not a common worry in that area.
