before you go gettin all excited with the green check marks, i think i would try to
screw it onto the top of an electric lamp first to see if the threads match. it could be a fancy
lamp shade cap nut.

yes you might be right about the shifter knob
but!!!
my cousin used a steering wheel spinner
something like these, hers was solid dark
blue. as she had one hand, this helped her
turn the wheel a little easier
yours is missing the clamp i think
i think hers had reverse threads, had something
to do with missing her right hand or maybe
that was just the way hers was made, she still uses one
to this day

Even though I can see this being used on the steering wheel, there are 100's of examples on the internet IDing this as an automotive marble shifter knob. I even found the exact color. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...=&as_occt=any&cr=&as_nlo=&as_nhi=&safe=images marble shift knob with handle.webp

As far as it being a lamp knob, can you show one link?

My first thought, because of the way the threads are notched, was a pipe threader......kinda fancy for one tho...

The comparison seems to have continuous threads...without the spacings for the mill turnings...

But...looks can be decieving.

I like the shifter knob idea better.....

Imho, it is too small to be a shift knob. As mentioned before, it could be a steering knob. I think it is a cabinet knob. But that is just a guess.

Its not too small for a shifter knob. We are talking about the old style shifter on the column. Anyway, cabinet knobs have a much smaller screw hole.

After finding an exact picture, with the exact coloring, with a hundred examples online, and numerous links supporting this as a shifter knob, I am a bit surprised that we still have doubters.

that being said Mr.Magoo, Im afraid its up to you to make a decision as to whether this is solved or not. If you believe the evidence has been presented, you should post the green check.

Maybe I will move the pic down and resize it. So you agree it could be column shifter? Dont forget the column shifter would be a tad smaller than a floor shift knob. (1-1/2"dia.) I think catfish came up with that... I just googled it.
