I'm rather new to this hobby so I'm going to ask kind of a new guy question. This may seem remedial to some people but it's something that I have never done and plan on doing alot of this winter. What types of Maps should i be looking for to find older homesites in the library? I've heard them referred to as Sanborn maps. Are these the types of Maps I should be researching in the libraries?

Check out kevo's post on Sanborns (about 11 posts down the list from yours) entitled "A Gift to All". . . I've used these Sanborn's on several occasions when researching smaller towns and they're wonderful to compare with current aerial photo imagery.

Good hunting!

I have purchased several old maps off of Ebay. Old Topographic (Topo) maps are also a great research tool, but the older the better. Good luck and feel free to contact me with any questions. I like maps and map reading.
