Hello everyone, I decided to put in a couple more hours today at the cellar hole I've been working. Based on some of the evidence above and below the ground at the cellar hole I didn't really expect to find anything from the 1700's there however...Under another tree and and not masked by iron quite so bad this time I got a good signal and popped a copper ;D After a brief hydro bath I was pleasantly surprised to see that I managed to pull my first CT copper! The lettering is worn but just barely visible on the obverse and unfortunately the back looks pretty worn. So, Here's a so-so pic after cleaning and a few of the site. Thanks for looking and HH!

You said it!

cool copper coin, what purpose did that stone wall room have, also how big is the inside because you could detect in there, if i were there i would go detecting inside, but only with a flash light.

congrats on that CT... have 2 myself and always a treat to pull out..
amazing shape for the stone walls...Don't build them like that anymore :laughing9:

Great Copper Find!
Oddly enough, I found a very similar structure 2 days ago.
Inside is a small dirt floor room, about the width and depth of the capstone.
I did not enter it, reminded me of a burial vault.

Thanks man, that's interesting! Apparently, this may not be a home site but an old Ice house or something to that effect as one member pointed out to me. Yeah, the room is slightly bigger than what you describe...The funniest thing about the site is that I was SURE it was pounded to death because it's right off a main road, people ride dirt-bikes past it. I pulled the Seated quarter, dime, and CT copper all within a reasonably small radius around the cellar.

Nice Find!!, Those are some nice structures. I stumbled upon a tomb like building while detecting some old cellars. I did go inside and paced it off 15 ft deep/by 12 ft wide and 6 ft high in the center. I took a pic with my phone and showed it off to some friends. I was told it was a root cellar. Probably the bigger (wealthier) foundations had their own. ?

Thank again everyone,FYI, I ID'd the coin's variety as far as the year and it's a 1787 CT copper.
