Excalibur w/15” attack and another with a 10” Sov Tornado coil and an XP Deus.
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Had a faint iffy signal that was repeatable (deus struggle), and started to dig. My hole kept getting bigger because I couldn't get it pinpointed right (pinpoint mode wouldnt pick it up). So I widen the hole and use my hand held pp and found a target. popped it out and it was an eagle button! Woo Hoo! Still more faint repeatable signals in the hole so I pp it again and up comes a rusty nail. Still more faint signal so up comes another target. Its a man on a chicken. It's not in good shape but its awesome as can be! After that came up a piece of lead.

Any ideas as to what this was?
Thanks. image1.webpimage2.webpimage3.webpimage4.webp

Off scale toys like this were popular in Europe before the first world war. You have not told us what metal it is made from but it would make sense that it is Lead and the lead you found after it was the the other half of this Miniature lead toy. Yes children played with lead in those days! and it was likely miniature painted with lead paint :) One Early maker of these was
Johillco or John Hill Co. I can't find this exact toy however and I do not know its composition so this has to remain "Just my guess"

Not sure the metal. Pewter maybe? I don't know. As for the lead found in the hole it was a flat piece of led that was rolled and bent into a U shape. Very crude and ugly, didn't seem to have any type of attachment to this object. Thank you for the information on it. I will look into that more.

A more plausible description would be a clothed monkey riding a chicken. :laughing7: No giggling... I base my hypothesis on the possible "laced" collar on the jacket, it would not be so with a soldier. I also checked all of my resources and could not find it in any of them. Manoil and Tommy Toy made nursery rhyme and fantasy figures in the 1930-40's, but not this one, sorry. I will keep checking and let you know if I find it/him/them! Sub 8-)

lol yes it is. When I first got it up it was caked in mud and first all I could make out was the bird. I was pleasantly shocked to see the figure of a body riding the darn thing!!

It's a metaphor.
Someone liked big roosters. :laughing7:

Possibly a liquor bottle topper. As Icewing said - it is a not so subtle dirty metaphor.

I can't find a pic of anything like it, though...

I can only think it's a 19th century cast iron or pot metal toy. Seems it would be something the Victorians would think of in a time you'd assemble your imagination of what was found and seen on the farm. Maybe a nursery rhyme or story book character?. I have a feeling what ever it is may be exceedingly rare and what it truly depicts has been lost and forgotten to time.

You've already got a lot of great answers here, but I'll just toss out the two things this brought to mind. First, I immediately thought of this image:

And of course this childhood staple:
