Man I love those "feelings". Got it in the plug w/pics.
Went to a park that I've only ever hunted once before but didn't find anything. My Dad, however, has been going there pretty regular the past two weeks. He can hunt after work but I work most nights so I have to wait till the weekend. He has been finding some GREAT stuff. The first time he went out he found his very first 14k Gold ring and it's a beauty. Last time he went he found a 1948 rosie and a 1935 buffalo nickel in the SAME hole. And keep in mind I only got him started MDing about a month ago.
So my Dad wanted to go back to his park but this week was my week to make the good stuff. We found a plaque on one side of the park that we hadn't seen before and it said the park was 1946. But the School across the street is 1927 so I KNEW there had to be some old silver. My goal for the day was a Mercury dime. Just a feeling I had. So I started Mding around the plaque and right off the bat a 1942 wheat. I'm thinking "sweet, I'm gonna find a Merc today!"
Keep hunting around the same area just gridding it off back and forth. Out pops a 1957 wheat. So I think "ok not that old but still a wheat so that's good. I'm still finding a merc today." I finished that area and surveyed the rest of the park trying to pick something up on my spidy senses. Well I saw an old fire grill a ways away and going on instinct I make a long slow sweep towards it. I get right up to the edge of the concrete by the grill and get a very eratic signal right by the concrete. I'm thinking trash mixed with maybe some interference from the concrete and maybe a coin. I try to pinpoint it and thought I might just clear some stuff out of the area. Out pops another wheat. So I keep on my slow steady arc across the park when I make a random course correction and head straight toward my dad to see what he had been finding. Well half way there I got a GREAT signal. It bounced from an 8 to a 9 consistant in every direction. (A good sign. 9 is always where silver dimes show up. ) So I pinpoint it and it's reading a coin size target at 6 inches deep. I'm thinking "here it is, my merc." So I get my ground shark to work making a big deep plug. I don't want to hurt my coin. Out comes the plug and I whip out my propointer. I check the hole first and get nothing. Then I check the plug and get the signal right at the tip of the plug. I pull half the plug apart right at the tip and there she is.
I think this was every bit of 6 inches but I want to know what yall think it looks like. Here it is my thumb is on what was the top and my finger is right by the dime which would have been the bottom.
I pull the rest of the dirt off the top and BAM my Mercury dime shows her face.
Found one other wheat and a bunch of clad. My Dad came away with a 1919 wheat and a broken piece of silver jewelry.
Man I love it when you just have a "feeling." Thanks for looking and Happy Hunting.
