What a sight.
It looks like a school of whales beaching themselves.
YES this would be worth not only checking out but some serious salvage work as well.
There is a LIFETIME of work here.

This place is not too far from my home. As you can see from the Google Earth photo, this area is the final resting place for many ships.

Do you think this location will be worth checking out?

Whoa....my answer would be a resounding yes. Is this an old shipyard or mothball facility or something? I guess the real question is...who has ownership over them?

Might find some nice brass items...who knows...

Its in Southern Maryland, in the Potomac River.

From what I understand, during the first World War, we mass produced these wooden boats and the war ended, so they were stuck with them. So those ships and a variety of other ships were sent to Mallows Bay, along with a few other boats. Anyway, a fire occured alot of them caught fire and sunk.

The complete story can be found here: http://www.dnr.state.md.us/naturalresource/winter2001/ghostship.html

There is nothing there worth all the problems and expense to recovering a single item.
Let it lay and nature will do the rest.
Good story.

That is amazing! I am sure there are some artifacts that remain, but they would be little more than fittings and the like. Nothing of significant value. According to the article it was picked over for years after the original company fell into bankruptcy.

Not to mention it has become sort of an ecological preserve where the wildlife seems to thrive. There is no way they would let anyone touch these wrecks now!

It is a part of history and should remain that way. There is nothing new you could add to that story by disturbing those wrecks.

Thanks for sharing! That is absolutely amazing!
