Thanks for the very interesting study. It really gives me a better understanding of how "cobs" were produced. I'll definitely have to read it a few more times to take in all of the author's research and experiments with methods of production.

You can see that when he made the bust on his planchet, that he cut the die too deep. This has affected the overall quality of the coins and his results almost more than anything else in his trials.

Still, it is not a bad study of the minting process. I have read minting descriptions that lead me to believe Lima and Potosi struck heated blanks.
