I found a similar designed shield, mine is a saddle makers badge, it's brass over lead.
What's on the reverse side of yours?

The attachment points are very similar to mine, looks like you have a saddle makers badge there Mike. :thumbsup:

That type of badge was not issued to a person. It's the leather saddle equivalent of the manufacturer's logo "badge" which was attached to a car's hood or the door of a refrigerator. In your case, note that the shield badge you found has "prongs" on its back for attaching it onto thick leather.
