Thats a good idea, but what about using a grip from a cycle handlebar instead of tape?

Cycle grip like this? Ive been doin that fer years! Maybe I DO need to patent this digger........
I make my blade from 4 inch stainless pipe, 3/4 inch galvanized pipe for the handle, tig welded. Hilt is 1/16 inch stainless plate. Simple.........effective.

Did you toss it Chukers? Im wondering if it can be fixed.........did it break in the handle? Perhaps what is left can be ground flat & a hilt & handle can be welded to it. Seems that the blade is strong (stainless Steel) weak part is in the tang/handle. If you realy like this digger, send whats left to me & I may be able to make it almost indestructable..........it would have a different handle of course.

I started out with the Ames 7 in 1 planter's buddy. I had a friend make a single slice with a pipe saw; all of the saw teeth remain but it angles back from that edge. This give's the impression of a knife with the smooth blade swooping back from the "top" of the knife that has saw teeth. It takes a minute or two to get used to the point not being in the middle. What you get in exchange is good action on the saw side, plus the ruler is still pretty accurate. I'll post a pic if you're interested.

I broke a few trowels before I started buying lifetime guarantee items. The fellow-poster in this thread that broke a planter's buddy is a better man than I. I still have full confidence in my tool.

One of the main reasons I bought this thing is because of the Limited Life time warranty... Lowes took it back and I got another... its a good digger especially for $15 but obviously you can put too much on it and break one... but really I didn't push that hard... I'm more careful with the new one... I thought it would of been solid metal thru the handle and it is but it narrows to about 1 inch just inside the blue handle part.

Ya know, I really like that and I use something very similar but I wish the serrated edge was on the other side or both for that matter.

I go from right to left when I cut a flap so it really doesn't get used. I know that there's other tools on the market but... If I only had the tools to alter mine.

try flipping it around see if that helps...

I've done that but it's weird + it's not "that" great.

I'm gonna get one like you have though, I think I'll like it better than my Fiskers.

I've done that but it's weird + it's not "that" great.

I'm gonna get one like you have though, I think I'll like it better than my Fiskers.

I think the Planters Buddy isn't as strong as the Lesche but it is 1/2 to a 1/3 of the price...

I am pretty rough on tools... well the hard Texas ground is... I did see a Lesche like tool got about 30 dollars once but I can't find it now.
