Well yesterday's temperature was -17 when I got up today's was +27 and the high is supposed to reach near fifty.I was digging around in my brokes trying to find some matches...These square knives all came from my archaic site...notice they are all broke about the same place accept the one semi-whole one. It's obvious that this area is the weak point.I see no impact fractures.Which is understandable if they were being used as a knives....any ideas to why they all would be broke in the same area...I might have two whole ones.Whatever they were used for they didn't hold up well...mjm IMAG0143.jpg

I've been told it usually means they broke right where the blade emerged from the haft....

Sounds good to me .Though it wouldn't leave much blade left to work with. That means three quarters of the knife is in the haft...mjm

Not if they were resharpened a few times in their use life, while in the haft. Would end up a stubby, but not right away. Just a thought....

Any chance they were broken on purpose to make 2 scrapers? Ive always wondered about that when I find many with the same problem. In my way of thinking if they werent made that way why not reuse them and make something different instead of tossing them. Just asking
