Like Brett mentioned in his post, we had a great time hunting today. The ground was mostly too hard to dig by hand but with the help of a big 'ole rubber mallet and the Lesche, the tundra started giving up the oldies. I started off with a couple wheats 1919 and 1957-d. Then dug the silver Masonic ring. It looks pretty old and well worn. Also managed to dig my first IH today (1874 & oldest coin yet), my first marble and first telephone token. My best find of the day turned out to be a magicians good luck token, issued in 1929 from Howard Thurston.

Howard Thurston (1869-1936) Thurston was one of the 20th Century’s most famous magicians, combining skill at magic with a genius for self–promotion. Thurston’s advertising pieces were of the highest quality and are eagerly sought. His token was made in 1929 with his bust on the front and a scarab and the words “good luck” on the reverse. It was sold after shows and through the mail to promote his horoscope books. The 1929 Thurston token in excellent condition sells for about $25.

Here's a cool video of Howard in action

Congrats on an awexome day of hunting Dad! Just wait until we can dig five times as many holes in the same amount of time!

That Masonic ring is an incredible find! Congrats on your first silver for the year!

Congrats on finally bagging your first IH! And nice and old too :) Now that you know what they sound like you will be finding them like crazy ;)

Awesome hunt bud, congrats on all the great finds!!! That token & ring rock!!!

Man do guys really know how to knock out those "firsts" in style!

That Masonic ring and Thurston token are spectacular!
(The way the ground's been lately, little magic never hurts)

Glad you and Brett were able to get out

Take care,
watercolor

Looks like you guys have quite a magical site. I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more interesting finds from there. Congrats on those great finds and your first IH.

The Indian was the hardest date for me to read on any found coin yet. Good thing the Macro has 20/20 vision.

What did the token ID like? I want to make sure I'm digging those signals!

Since the token is bronze (see link) it was sounding close to a post 82 cent, but not quite. If I remember
correctly it VDI'd around 70-71 on the DFX, running 15 khz normalized. I only dug it because it was 6" deep and under a 1" root.

Sounds more like a reason to to leave it there! Glad you got it and shared it though! Found a few of those myself and on the CZ's they come up in the high coin category so they'd be a dug target too!

Cool finds! I especially like the IH.

Joe

Congrats on your oldest coin Dad! You guys had a great day considering what you were up against.
