Could be slag...i see what looks like air pockets in the middle of the rock

Did the test say it was pure? I only ask because I did not know it was a free element.

Pretty cool find.

At my place here in WNC, Treasure Valley, manganese forms as a coating on some of the rocks in the stream and the rocks are primarily quartz. It is hard to say for sure from the photo what you have, but you could break the rock and see if in fact this is just a coating.

it is broken lab said there are traces of other ?elements but 99 percent mag.

Wow ! I’m surprised it being that pure, might want to ask nearest N.C. Geological Survey office if that is normal for your area.
