Dug about an hour ago. Bottom script says “ Mardi Gras” although badly worn. Rang up as brass. Not sure of age although one online image matches the general star shape and is dated 1899. The “swiggly” image in the worn. center is part of a “jester” like hat which matches the online image. Could be from that time period but can’t be to sure. Thanks for viewing!!

Cool find indeed, congrats!
I would treat it to a soak in the electrolysis bath, bet most of that junk would just wash right off.

Thank you mxrat!! I’ll definitely take your suggestion as I did not even consider that. Hopefully a date will become visible. If it is turn of century I’ll be a happy man being that Mardi Gras is central to our culture. Thanks again!
